The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia became one of the most important stage in Nelly's art career. She has been an artist at the Bolshoi for 15 years, where she gained a unique experience in stage-working collaborating with outstanding conductors, stage directors, and opera singers.
Participation in such world-famous performances as "The Nutcracker", "Carmen", "The Queen of Spades", "Boris Godunov", as well as international tours, significantly expanded her creative horizon. Her diverse interests, work in the country's leading theater, and constant interaction with various musical styles have shaped Nelly as an erudite, energetic, and uncompromising singer capable of working with folklore, pop, jazz, and academic material. She has performed at major venues in Russia, Armenia, and Europe, including the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Moscow Philharmonic, the Moscow International Performing Arts Center, the State Kremlin Palace, the Kozlov Club, and the Dvin Music Hall in Yerevan.
One of the most remarkable examples of her musical mind was the JAN-e-JAN project, founded in 2021 together with guitarist and composer Karen Harutyunyan. The band's work combines the heritage of Armenian folk music with elements of trip-hop, progressive rock, and experimental sound, while maintaining respect for tradition and a subtle understanding of how folklore can exist in a modern context. As a guest vocalist, Nelly is also in demand in various other musical projects, including PanGEO, Araraton, ArtSreda, Project A, and others.
In her teaching and expert work, Nelly also demonstrates a deep understanding of diverse vocal traditions. Since 2017, she has been collaborating with the international educational center for creative technologies TUMO, helping young talents reach their potential. Through workshops and music laboratories, she inspires musicians to find their own sound in traditional music, opening up new sides of the Armenian heritage to them. Since 2021, Nelly has been the chief vocal expert at the Moscow school of Armenian Modern dance and vocal 4hayazg, and also conducts a private teaching practice, directing and advising both solo vocalists and musical groups, including the MSU band.
Her resume includes participation in a large number of festivals and creative projects, including events organized with the support of the United Nations, embassies, museums, state institutions, and ministries. Nelly regularly participated in musical events and projects in collaboration with the Armclub HSE (the Armenian club of the National Research University of Higher School of Economics). In addition, the artist actively conducts сharity work, organizing concerts of Armenian music in cultural centers, museums, and medical institutions. Nelly is also the co—founder of the Armenian Underground Festival, the first Armenian experimental music festival in Moscow, which has become an important event on the cultural map of the city, opening new horizons for the music scene of the Armenian Diaspora.
Nelly Mardoyan's work, filled with respect for tradition and the search for new forms, finds a response among the Armenian Diaspora in Russia, Europe, and the USA.
